The piece
Byrd's five-voice setting of the Introit for All Saints, Gaudeamus omnes in Domino, appeared in the first book of his Gradualia in 1605, propers written for Catholic Masses held in private English houses. The antiphon is sung again after the Gloria Patri, as in the chant introit it replaces.
The recording
The Cardinall's Musick and Andrew Carwood recorded it in the Fitzalan Chapel, Arundel Castle, in April 2009 for the thirteenth volume of their Byrd Edition. The album was Gramophone's Recording of the Year in 2010, and Gramophone wrote that "Hyperion has done Byrd proud".
Other recordings
The Marian Consort under Rory McCleery (Delphian) and Stile Antico (Harmonia Mundi) have also recorded the introit.
