The piece
Palestrina set the antiphon from the Common of Virgins, “Come, bride of Christ, receive the crown which the Lord has prepared for you forever,” for four voices and published it in his Motecta festorum totius anni (Rome, 1563). He later built his Missa Veni sponsa Christi on the motet.
The recording
The Choir of St John's College, Cambridge, boys and men, recorded it under George Guest in the college chapel in December 1967 for Argo, with the plainsong antiphon sung first by the treble Michael Turner.
Other recordings
The Sixteen and Harry Christophers recorded the motet for Coro on Palestrina, Vol. 7 (2017).
